Getting to a physiotherapy clinic when you're in pain, recovering from surgery, or looking after an elderly parent is hard.
Sometimes it's the transport. Sometimes it's the mobility. Sometimes it's simply that the person who needs help most is the one least able to make the journey.
Home visit physiotherapy exists for exactly these situations and it's one of the most valuable, and most underused, services we offer at Revival.
What Is Home Visit Physiotherapy?
A qualified physiotherapist comes to your home to provide treatment. You receive the same quality of assessment and hands-on care that you would get in a clinic. Your therapist brings everything they need. You don't have to travel, arrange transport, or try to fit a clinic appointment around already difficult logistics. Expert care, at home, on your terms.
Who Is Home Visit Physiotherapy For?
Stroke survivors and hemiplegia patients — After a stroke, getting to a clinic can be a major undertaking. Home visits allow rehabilitation to begin immediately — and early rehabilitation is critical for stroke recovery. Every week matters.
Post-operative patients — After joint replacement, spinal surgery, or any major orthopaedic procedure, a therapist at home works on range of motion, swelling, scar tissue, and early mobilisation without you navigating a car journey with a fresh surgical wound.
Elderly patients with mobility limitations — Falls, arthritis, general deconditioning, Parkinson's — many elderly patients in Sri Lanka need regular physiotherapy but face significant barriers to travelling. Home visits remove those barriers entirely.
Patients with paralysis or neurological conditions — Patients with complex neurological needs often find clinic visits impractical. Home visit physiotherapy brings specialist neurological rehabilitation directly to them.
Recently discharged hospital patients — The transition from hospital to home is a vulnerable period. Home visits maintain continuity — preventing the setbacks that come from a gap in treatment.
Caregivers who need support — Home visits are also an opportunity to educate the family member who is helping with transfers, mobility, and exercises every day between therapy sessions.
What Happens During a Home Visit?
Step 1: Booking and initial discussion — We'll ask about the patient's condition, current mobility, any recent surgery, and the address. This helps us send the right therapist.
Step 2: First visit — assessment and environment review — Full assessment of movement, strength, balance, pain, and function. Plus an environmental assessment fall risks, furniture height, access routes, and available equipment.
Step 3: Treatment — Hands-on physiotherapy using the same techniques used in clinic. Guided exercises, manual therapy, and targeted work on the session's goal.
Step 4: Home exercise programme — Clear, specific exercises for the patient to do between visits. Shown to both patient and caregiver, written in simple language, adjusted at each visit.
Step 5: Caregiver education — We teach family members how to safely assist with transfers, mobility, and exercise — so the hours between therapy sessions reinforce recovery, not undo it.
How Often Do Home Visits Happen?
Acute stroke rehabilitation: 3–5 times per week in early stages, reducing as independence improves
Post-operative recovery: 2–3 times per week for the first month, then weekly
Elderly maintenance and fall prevention: Weekly or fortnightly
Neurological conditions: 2–3 times per week depending on severity
Chronic condition management: Weekly to fortnightly

A Note to Families
We know that arranging care for a parent or family member is stressful. There's the worry about whether they're getting the right treatment. The logistics. The challenge of understanding and remembering everything the therapist says.
Home visit physiotherapy removes most of that stress. We come to you. We explain everything to the whole family. We teach you what to do. And we're a phone call away between visits. You don't have to do this alone.
